A S S I M I L A T I O N (2015)

"A S S I M I L A T I O N" is the first solo in a series of five solo works being created under Malik Nashad Sharpe's performance alias, marikiscrycrycry, to aestheticize the ontologies of Blackness and Queerness. By collecting images and through cogent arrangement, "A S S I M I L A T I O N" uses the imbrication of queer, anarchist, and pro-Black ontologies alongside a current state of socio-political affairs. This produces choreographic systems that suggest new existential, Afro-futuristic possibilities through the recalling and resituating of allostatic load (the wearing and tearing of the body due to consistent stress) faced by the Black body as caused by frequent abuse, and also as the ripest site for radical discourse.
